USC T&F Adds 6 Standouts In Early Signing Period

USC Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert announced today (Nov. 21) the addition of six standout athletes to the 2018 class during the early signing period.  Among the new recruiting class are Karlee Freeman (throws), Bailey Lear (sprinter), Lanae-Tava Thomas (jumper/sprinter), Breanna Bernard-Joseph (hurdler), Ayden Owens (multi-events) and Nate Patterson (high jumper).

Getting to Know Eric Sloan

Redshirt senior jumper Eric Sloan is looking forward to the 2018 season. Despite being hampered by injuries throughout his superb career, he has accomplished some amazing things.  Last year he won the Pac-12 triple jump title and set the NCAA West Regional triple jump record with a leap of 55-6.25.  He also placed 6th nationally in the men's outdoor long jump and 16th nationally in the men's outdoor triple jump. This year he plans to compete in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, and is hoping to help lead his team to the Pac-12 title and a shot at a national championship.  This is what he has to say prior to the start of his final season as a Trojan:

Getting To Know Rai Benjamin

Junior All-American hurdler Rai Benjamin is in his first season as a track athlete at USC after transferring from UCLA.  Last season, Benjamin took second in the NCAA 400m hurdles final running a PR of 48.33, which was just .01 second behind the winner.  Benjamin's time matches USC's school record, set by Olympic gold medalist Felix Sanchez in 2000.  He also won the 2017 Pac-12 400m hurdles title.  Being that it is Rivalry Week, it seemed fitting that we caught up with Benjamin now.
