WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA freshman third baseman Stephany LaRosa was named Pac-12 Softball Player of the Week, and ARIZONA sophomore pitcher Shelby Babcock was named Pac-12 Softball Pitcher of the Week for April 9-15, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

LaRosa hit .571 (12-for-21) with 12 RBI, three home runs and seven runs scored in helping the Bruins to a pair of Pac-12 series victories over Stanford and Washington. LaRosa posted a 1.048 slugging percentage with a .600 on-base percentage. She recorded one hit in each game, including four games with multiple hits, to extend her hitting streak to seven games. LaRosa went 8-for-12 against the Cardinal with 10 RBI. She ranks third in the Pac-12 with a .442 batting average, .812 slugging percentage and 51 RBI.

Babcock posted a 1.78 ERA while going 2-0 in four appearances as the Wildcats finished the week 4-2, sweeping Utah and taking one game from top-ranked California. Babcock pitched 19.2 innings, struck out 13 and allowed only five runs on 11 hits while limiting opponents to a .162 clip against her. In the win over Cal, she allowed only three hits with six strikeouts in a complete game effort. Babcock is 15-7 this season with a 2.34 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 134.2 innings pitched.

This is the first Player of the Week honor for LaRosa and UCLA’s 120th all-time. This is Babcock’s first Pitcher of the Week award and Arizona’s 136th.

UCLA will host Cal State Northridge on Wednesday and then Utah for a series beginning Friday. Arizona also stays at home, welcoming New Mexico for a doubleheader on Wednesday before hosting Oregon.
