82-Game Schedule Features Seven Top-25 Teams from 2011, Including NCAA Champion UCLA
The Pac-12 Networks today announced its 2012 women’s volleyball television schedule that includes 82 matchups highlighting the sport’s top talent, both on a national and international level. The schedule kicks off with the Jiangsu Chinese Team squaring off against USC (August 28), 2011 NCAA Champion UCLA (August 29), Stanford (September 5) and Cal (September 6) in a four-game international showcase. All four matchups start at 7:00 PM PT.
“It is very exciting to be in a position to deliver unprecedented exposure to a sport as dynamic as women’s volleyball,” said Gary Stevenson, President Pac-12 Enterprises. “With 14 NCAA titles, including UCLA’s last year, there is no denying the Pac-12’s strength in women’s volleyball. With the international matches as well as our full conference schedule, fans will have an opportunity to see some of the very best volleyball players in the world every week on the Pac-12 Networks.”
The 82-game television schedule is a 272 percent jump from the 22-game television appearances Pac-12 teams received in 2011. The lineup includes seven teams that finished in the final top 25 national rankings last season and wastes no time pitting two nationally-ranked programs against each other with UCLA hosting Pepperdine on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 PM PT (10:00 PM ET). Leaning on the Pac-12’s dominance in women’s volleyball, the Network’s television schedule primarily focuses on inter-conference play with each team making at least 12 appearances. The schedule closes on Friday, November 23 with a day chalked full of action as all Conference teams face their regional rivals to wrap up the regular season.
In 2011, seven Conference teams earned bids to the NCAA Tournament, including the eventual na-tional champion Bruins, led by AVCA National Coach of the Year Mike Sealy. USC, who secured the automatic bid after winning the first-ever Pac-12 Championship title and won a Conference-record of 20 league matches, also advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the second year in a row.
Of the eight Pac-12 players that earned All-American honors in 2011, UCLA’s Rachel Kidder, Oregon’s Alaina Bergsma and Natalie Hagglund of USC return to the court, and are a few of the Conference’s players to watch in 2012.
The Pac-12 Networks launch August 15 and will consist of one national and six regional networks devoted solely to the Pac-12. In addition to the hundreds of live televised Pac-12 sporting events, Pac-12 Networks subscribers will have access to their carrier’s TV Everywhere platform, providing access to all Pac-12 Networks programming on any device through their broadband service.

What Pac-12 head volleyball coaches are saying about the 2012 Pac-12 Networks volleyball television schedule…
"In my opinion, this changes the whole face of the sport in this country. This is what the coaches, the coaches association (AVCA), and everybody has been asking for; this kind of exposure. I think you're going to see a tremendous jump in the sport's following. The fact that we're also having men's matches broadcast, that's two Olympic sports in volleyball that are going to get prime exposure for the first time, ever. I think it puts the Pac-12 on the premiere level for where young athletes will want to go and play." – USC head volleyball coach Mick Haley
“Having more women’s volleyball matches televised, first and foremost, is going to grow the game of volleyball. Regardless of who is on TV, the more exposure we can get as a sport is great for growing the game. For UCLA, it’s amazing. It gives us a chance to showcase our program, our talent and our abilities as a team.” – UCLA head volleyball coach Michael Sealy
“The Pac-12 Networks broadcast of 82 volleyball matches this season is an excellent way to market collegiate volleyball and to increase exposure for our 12 volleyball programs, which collectively make up the top conference in the nation. This will bring us great exposure and really allow us to show the rest of the country the both the talent and competitiveness of all 12 schools. I’m very excited for this first year and beyond.” – Oregon State head volleyball coach Terry Liskevych
