Only 26 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1942, the military urged that the Rose Bowl to move the game away from the West Coast in fear of further attacks. What resulted was the only time the Rose Bowl was played outside of Pasadena, Calif. The Beavers traveled to Durham, N.C. to play undefeated Duke. Despite the long trek, the underdog Oregon State prevailed in a 20-16 upset.
