An emotional tone was set before the 2001 Rose Bowl even began. Washington rallied around teammate Curtis Williams, who had been paralyzed in an on-field injury during the season. Huskies quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo threw for one touchdown and ran for another to earn Player of the Game honors in a 34-24 win over Drew Brees and the Boilermakers.
