TUCSON, Ariz. (www.arizcats.com) - Be sure to catch all of the action on Friday, Oct. 13, as two University of Arizona sporting events combine for an evening of fun and excitement.

The fun starts at 8 p.m. as the Arizona volleyball team hosts USC in McKale Center. Riding a 14-match win streak, the Wildcats are ranked sixth nationally and are fighting for Pac-10 supremacy with the undefeated Women of Troy. Admission for the match is $5.

The excitement of Midnight Madness and the start of the basketball season follows the completion of the volleyball match. Doors open at 10 p.m. and a wide variety of activities are on tap. A UA player autograph session begins at 10:15 with band, cheerleader and pom line performances scheduled to follow.

Other activities include the Royal Buick Shootout, with the chance for a contestant to win a car, a UA player and cheerleader skit, a celebrity basketball game featuring the UA coaching staff and local media, and the Alltel/KRQ $10,000 Shootout, in which four contestants will have the opportunity to win $10,000 apiece.

Player introductions begin at midnight with a slam dunk contest and the season's first practice to follow.

Admission to Midnight Madness is free and open to the public.

The Wildcats open the 2000-01 campaign with the Pepsi Red/Blue Scrimmage on Wednesday, Nov. 1. The squad opens the regular season on Monday, Nov. 20, at the Maui Invitational against Chaminade.
