Oct. 15, 2000

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The University of Oregon volleyball team fell 15-7, 15-5, 15-10 to Washington State in front of 911 fans Saturday night at Bohler Gym.

Oregon is now 7-10 overall 0-9 in the Pac-10. WSU improved to 12-6 and 3-6.

The Ducks were led by senior Halie Mazza who had 10 kills and four blocks. Monique Tobbagi added nine kills, while senior Amy Banducci led Oregon defensively with 11 digs.

'There are a lot of adjustment to be made,' said Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira 'We are in the same situation as Washington State in that we need to make theses adjustments to move forward in the second half of the season.'

In game one, WSU took an early 5-1 lead, but Oregon used stong blocking by Mazza, Banducci and Julie Gerlach to tie the game at 5-5. But the Ducks were unable to hold off a 4-0 Cougar run and eventually dropped the first game 15-7.

In the second game, Oregon had the early 2-0 advantage, but WSU used strong serving to make an 11-0 run. A block by Alisha Stevens and Gerlach stopped the run and Oregon got on the board by Gerlach's kill and a block by Mazza. However, the Ducks were unable to hold off the Cougars who won 15-5.

In game three, the Ducks took a 4-0 lead with three blocks by Stevens, and led 6-3 after a kill by Banducci. The game was tied four times, the last being at 10-10, but WSU used a 5-0 run to win the game 15-10.

'Our serving and passing made the difference in game three and that dictates wheteher or not our offense in is rhythm,' Ferreira said.

The Ducks hit .183 and had 38 kills on the night, while WSU hit .248 and tallied 53 kills.

Oregon plays at Oregon State Friday at 7 p.m. in match that will be shown live on Fox Sports Net.
