Kaczmarski To Take Academic Quarter Off From UCLA.

Oct. 17, 2000

Head women's basketball coach Kathy Olivier announced today that the UCLA Athletic Department has granted sophomore Nicole Kaczmarski permission to take the Fall Quarter off for personal reasons.

Kaczmarski, who started all 29 games at a guard position last season for the Bruins, averaged 11.7 points and earned Pac-10 conference all-freshman honors. She attended summer classes at UCLA, which ended on September 15. Shortly thereafter, she returned to New York in order to seek additional medical care for a foot she had injured (plantar fascia strain) during the summer at the USA Jones Cup trials in Colorado. Kaczmarski has remained at home in New York and has been in regular contact with Coach Olivier.

The Fall Quarter began on September 28th. Inasmuch as Kaczmarski has not yet reported to school, UCLA decided today that she should take the quarter off. It is expected that she will return by December 16th to rejoin the basketball team and continue her coursework at UCLA.

'It is unfortunate that Kaz will not be with us for the first seven games,' said coach Olivier. 'We made this decision in support of Nicole and look forward to her return.'

In other roster news, senior guard LaCresha Flannigan is academically ineligible for the fall quarter. Flannigan, who averaged 6.7 points and 2.0 rebounds while appearing in all 29 games as a junior, is not a currently-enrolled student at UCLA but plans to apply for readmission to the University following Fall Quarter.
