WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Washington midfielder Ben Somoza has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for October 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Somoza, a junior from Edmonds, Wash., played a key role in the Huskies' upset win over No. 5 UCLA as he scored a goal while adding two shots and assists.

After UCLA jumped to a 2-0 lead, Somoza got Washington back in the game when he assisted on the first two Husky goals. He then connected on the game-winner with 19 seconds left in the match to propel Washington to a 3-2 victory, its sixth consecutive win.

Somoza currently ranks in the Conference top 10 in goals, points, points per game, assists and assists per game.

This is the first weekly honor for Somoza and Washington's second Player of the Week honor all-time.
