Stanford's Lauren Kalvaria Advances To Semifinals In Singles And Doubles At Riviera Women's All-American Championships

Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Stanford's Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL) posted three victories on Friday to move into the semifinals of both the doubles and singles competition at the Riviera Women's All-American Championships hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club.Kalvaria began her day by beating #8 seed Megan Miller of Duke (6-2, 6-3) in the second round of the tournament. She advanced to Saturday's singles semifinal by defeating Notre Dame's Michelle Dasso later in the day (6-2, 6-4). On the doubles side, Kalvaria teamed with fellow Cardinal Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV) for a three-set victory (7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-0) over Miller and Amanda Johnson of Duke to advance to the doubles semifinal.
Kalvaria will square off Saturday in a singles semifinal with the tournament's top seed, Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia. Also on Saturday, Kalvaria and Lastra will face Vlada Ulhirova and Janet Walker of Texas in a semifinal doubles match. The winners of both matches will advance to their respective finals on Sunday.
Stanford's Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ) split her two singles matches on Friday. Tokuda defeated Ohio State's Kristy Driscoll (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) to earn a spot in the quarterfinals before being eliminated from the tournament by Old Dominion's Nataly Cahana (6-4, 6-1).
Kalvaria is currently ranked #11 in the 2000-2001 ITA Division I women's preseason collegiate preseason rankings, while Tokuda is ranked #30. Kalvaria and Lastra are the 10th ranked doubles team.
The Riviera is the second leg of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Grand Slam.
