UW Rowers Top Cougars

Lake Chelan - The Washington men's and women's rowing teams opened the fall season with victories over Washington State at the annual Campbell Cup on Lake Chelan Saturday morning.

The Husky women's varsity eight started the day with an open water victory over the Courgars, covering the 1,200-meter course in a time of 4 minutes, 5.1 seconds while facing a light headwind. WSU followed at 4:12.7.

In the men's race, both the Husky varsity and junior varsity eights topped the Cougars. The varsity crew crossed the line first in a time of 3:34.5, followed by the junior varsity at 3:38.1. The Cougars trailed by more than 10 seconds, finishing in 3:49.7.

The junior varsity women completed the UW sweep as they won the final race in 3:56.9, followed by the Cougars at 4:02.3.

Washington continues its fall season with the Portland Loop Nov. 4 on the Willamette River.
