Women's Golf In Second Place After Day One Of Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate

Oct. 20, 2000

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford Women's golf team finished four-over par with a team score of 292, on the first day of the three-day Stanford/PEPSI Women's Intercollegiate. The Cardinal finished second behind the University of Arizona, 277 (-11) and had two golfers in 8th place. Arizona leads the way holding the top three individual spots as well as the top team placing. Rounding out the top-five schools were New Mexico State University (295), University of Southern California (296) and University of Tulsa (297).

Finishing in 8th place for Stanford were Freshman Angela Rho (Fullerton, CA) and Sophomore Kim Rowton (San Antonio, TX), who both shot 72, which is par for the course. Coach Caroline O'Connor (6th season) thought the team was very consistent in their play, especially in terms of hitting the green. Rho hit every green on her way to shooting par. Also finishing in the top-30 were Senior Hilary Homeyer (73, +1) who tied for 13th and Senior Stephanie Keever (75, +3) who tied for 30th.

Coming off a second place finish at last week's Edean Inlanfeldt Invitational in Redmond, WA, the Cardinal anticipates another strong showing. Tee times begin tomorrow at 8am at the Stanford Golf Course and Jessica Belskis will tee off first for the Cardinal at 9:30am.
