Oregon Volleyball Gets Second Straight Win

The University of Oregon volleyball team extended its win streak to two matches with a 15-11, 15-3, 15-12 win over UC Riverside. The Ducks improve to 9-10 overall, 1-9 Pac-10. The Highlanders are 2-18 overall.
'We're clicking right now,' Oregon setter Julie Gerlach said. 'We're just trying to stay relaxed and when we flow we are successful.'
Oregon junior Monique Tobbagi had her seventh double double of the season, recording at match high 18 kills and 12 digs. For the second straight match Tobbagi hit over .300, posting a .341 clip with just four errors in 41 attempts. Setter Sydney Chute had 10 kills, seven digs and four blocks. Chute also led Oregon with 23 assists and had an overall attack percentage of .500.
'We talked about the leaders coming in here and stepping up,' Tobbagi said. 'We knew we could win and we wanted to dominate the tempo of the match.'
The Ducks had command of the match throughout and posted a .234 hitting percentage. They outkilled (50-43) and outblocked (7-3) UC Riverside and had five service aces. In Game 2, Oregon hit a match high .261 and held the Highlanders to five kills and a -.156 hitting percentage.
Senior Halie Mazza had nine kills, nine digs, five blocks and committed zero errors for a .346 hitting percentage. Freshman Alisha Stevens continued to be a spark for Oregon, tallying five kills and one block.
The Highlanders were led by Kathleen Chilbes and Pam Hartman, who had eight kills each.
The Ducks return to conference play this weekend when they host USC Friday and UCLA Saturday. Game time for both matches is 7:00 p.m.
