Sean Sylvis Named To Soccer America Team Of The Week
Oct. 27, 2000
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford senior midfielder Sean Sylvis, earlier named the Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week, has also been selected to the Soccer America National Team of the Week for October 17-23.
Sylvis, from Redmond, Wash., came off the bench to score both game-winning goals as Stanford posted Pac-10 road victories at Oregon State and then-No. 4 Washington. On Friday in Corvallis, Sylvis snapped a 1-1 tie with a header at the 86:12 mark as the Cardinal defeated the Beavers 2-1. In Sunday's 2-0 win over Washington, he broke a scoreless tie by drilling a shot from 12 yards out at 25:29. With that victory, the Cardinal avenged its only loss of the season and pulled even with the Huskies for the top spot in the Conference.
This is the third consecutive week a Stanford player has been honored by Soccer America, following Luke Rust (Sept. 25-Oct. 1) and Roger Levesque (Oct. 9-15). Cardinal defender Lee Morrison also earned recognition for the week of Sept. 11-17.
Stanford, ranked No. 2 in this week's Soccer America poll, faces Pac-10 rival California this Sunday in Berkeley. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
