UCLA Cruises To Victory Over The Gauchos

The UCLA women's swim team opened the 2000-01 season with a relatively easy 174-79 victory over UC Santa Barbara last Friday at the Men's Gym Pool.

The Bruins claimed victories in all the individual and relay events. Freshman Sara Platzer had a superb coming-out party last Friday. Junior Jen Noddle also won two individual events.

Platzer finished first in the 200 free (1:50.05-hand time) and the 100 free (50.82), while Noddle captured the 100 breast (1:05.56) and the 200 individual medley (2:08.45). Other notable performances included sophomores Leanne Cadag and Erica Shugart winning the 100 back (57.84) and the 50 free (24:04), respectively. Senior Beth Goodwin was impressive as well, claiming the 100 fly (55.65). UC Santa Barbara did not field a diving squad.
