Chris Duffy Shines In First Fall Baseball Scrimmage

TEMPE, Ariz. -- In the first official fall scrimmage, junior transfer outfielder Chris Duffy went 3-for-5 with a double, solo home run and three RBI to lead to Gold squad to a 13-2 defeat of the Maroon.

Duffy, a transfer from South Mountain CC, had a run-scoring single in the first inning and then belted a solo home run deep over the right-center field fence in the fifth. The unofficial game was only played six innings.

Freshman first baseman Jeremy West (Las Vegas, Nev.) recorded three hits and three RBI to help lead the Gold team to the victory. Mel Stocker (2x4), Mike Lopez (2x4), Jonah Martin (3x4), Cesar Castillo (2x3) and Jeff Phelps (2x3) also turned in good performances at the plate for the Gold team. Redshirt sophomore Paul French (Concord, Calif.) pitched well allowing only one earned run in four innings to pick up the win.

Freshman infielder Steve Garrabrants (Phoenix, Ariz.) had two hits to lead the Maroon squad out of the leadoff spot. Redshirt freshman Ryan Edginton (Chester Springs, Pa.) was 2-for-2.

The Arizona State baseball fall scrimmages will continue throughout the next two weeks at Packard Stadium.
