Men's Basketball Adds Player to Roster

Oct. 31, 2000

Corvallis, Ore. - True freshman Jared Abell from Prineville, Ore., has been added to the Oregon State University men's basketball roster, it was announced Tuesday by Beaver head coach Ritchie McKay.

The 6'5' forward played high school basketball at Crook County of the Intermountain Conference. He averaged 23.1 points as a senior and earned the league's Co-Conference Player of the Year honors. He was selected second team all-state last season, and was a two-time first team all-conference honoree. He lettered four years in basketball, and one in track and tennis.

Abell joins the depleted roster of McKay. The team will be without the services of highly touted junior college forward Philip Ricci for the entire season as he recuperates from knee surgery. The injury list continues with sophomore two-guard Emonte Jernigan sidelined until the middle of December with a broken bone in his left foot, freshman center Derek Potter has been out since practice began with a stress fracture in his left foot, and sophomore guard Jimmie Haywood is slowly returning to full speed after a sprained right ankle injury.

Oregon State opens the exhibition season Mon., Nov. 6 at 7:05 p.m. against Slovakia Select in Gill Coliseum. The regular season opener is Fri., Nov. 17 at home vs. Cal State-Fullerton.
