Grieg, Holmes Break Par To Lead Men's JV Golf To 11th At ULM Intercollegiate

MONROE, La. - - Daren Grieg and Chance Holmes each shot career-best rounds on Tuesday to help the Oregon State men's golf second team to a score of 904 and an 11th-place finish at the Louisiana-Monroe Intercollegiate. Grieg and Holmes tied for 18th with scores of 6-over-par 222.

Grieg, a redshirt freshman playing in his second tournament, carded a final-round 4-under-par 68 to tie his career-low and help OSU to a 289 in the final round. He shot a 68 in the season-opening Northwest Intercollegiate while playing as an individual.

Holmes, a sophomore, posted a 69 to break 70 for the first time in his career. His previous best was 71, which he did twice during his freshman season.

Freshman Cameron MacKenzie shot a final-round 75 to end up at 223 after an even-par 72 in Monday's second round.

David Williams, also a freshman, shot 237 to tie for 75th, while Todd Deacon withdrew in the final round.

The Beavers showed consistent improvement from their opening round, as they went from 312 to 303 to 289 in rounds one through three and jumped from last place after the second round to finish 11th in the 16-team field.Arkansas-Little Rock took the team title with a 7-under 857, while Texas-Arlington was second with an 869.

Arkansas-Little Rock had three of the top four individual finshers, including medalist Daniel Fox, who carded a 65 on Tuesday to finish at 8-under 208 and win by two strokes over Texas-Arlington's Justin Schulze.

The Beavers won't play again until Jan. 28-30, when they head to Tucson, Ariz., for the Ping Intercollegiate.
