Eric Doble And Casey Myers Named Preseason All-Americans

Nov. 2, 2000

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State Sun Devil senior baseball players Casey Myers and Eric Doble were recently named to the 2001 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason All-America team.

Myers was selected to the first team All-America squad as the catcher. A senior from Casa Grande, Ariz., Myers is coming off a spectacular 2000 campaign in which he hit .412 with 97 RBI, 18 home runs and was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year. Myers was a first team NCBWA All-American at the conclusion of the 2000 season and was also honored as the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year. Myers was drafted in the 30th round in June by the Milwaukee Brewers, but opted to come back for his final season. He is 77 RBI short of the school and Pac-10 record.

Doble was selected to the third team as a relief pitcher, one of only six to be honored by the NCBWA. Doble, who is also a native of Case Grande, returns for his senior year after being drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 10th round last June. The hard-throwing right hander was 3-1 last year with a 3.35 ERA and nine saves.

The Arizona State baseball team will close out fall drills in the next week and are set to open the '01 season on Jan. 26 vs. the University of Texas-Arlington at Packard Stadium.
