Tom Paces Women's Volleyball To 3-2 Win Over Washington

Logan Tom notched a match-high 26 kills as No. 17 Stanford defeated Washington 3-2 tonight in Seattle, Washington in a Pac-10 matchup. Game scores were 10-15, 15-9, 15-10, 15-17, 15-11.
The Cardinal improve to 14-9, 7-7 in league play while the Huskies fall to 6-15, 1-12 in the Pac-10.
Washington took an early 4-1 lead but Stanford rebounded to tie the game up on a kill by Michelle Chambers. The two teams knotted up again at 6-6 before the Huskies went on a four point run to go up 10-6. The Cardinal would pull within two at 9-11 on a kill by Tara Conrad, however Washington reached game point on a Stanford hitting error. The Cardinal held off four game points before Washington closed out the game 15-10.
Stanford opened a 6-2 lead but Washington pulled to within one at 5-6 on a service ace. The Cardinal pulled ahead 13-7 on a block by Jennifer Detmer and Tara Conrad, forcing a Husky timeout. But Stanford would get to game point on a kill by Logan Tom and took game two 15-9 on a Husky hitting error.
Game three was a see-saw battle between the two teams with six ties in a tight race. With Stanford holding a slim 11-10 lead, Cardinal Logan Tom broke the game open with tough serving, getting the squad to game point on a service ace. The Cardinal would win the game, 15-10, on Tom's fifth ace of the match.
Washington and Stanford traded points early in the game, tying five times before reaching 6-all. The Huskies went on a four point run to pull ahead 10-6 before a service ace by Lindsay Kagawa got the Cardinal within three. Stanford pulled to within two at 10-12 to force a Husky timeout. Washington would reach game point on a service ace but the Cardinal held off three game points to tie it up at 14-14. But Washington would prevail 17-15 on a block to force a fifth and deciding game.
With the game tied at 4-4, the Cardinal went on a three point run to go up 7-4 then open the lead to 10-5. After trading the next couple of points, Stanford reached game point on a block by Jennifer Detmer and Lindsay Kagawa at 14-8. Washington would peel off three straight points to get to 14-11 but a kill by Logan Tom, her 26th of the match, gave Stanford the 15-11 win.
Four Cardinal players ended the match in double figures including Tom (26), Tara Conrad (17), Jennifer Detmer (16) and Ashley Ivy (13). Tom led the team with 19 digs while freshman middle blocker Jenn Harvey notched a match-high nine blocks.
Stanford is next in action tomorrow night in Pullman against Washington State at 7 p.m. in Bohler Gym.
