Husky Rowers Sweep Portland Loop
The Washington men's and women's rowing team won all four events at the annual Portland Loop five mile race on the Willamette River Saturday morning. The Huskies successfully defended their titles in the competition that this year featured crews from Cornell and University of Minnesota.
The women's junior varsity started the sweep when they won the Open Eight in a time of 22 minutes, 53.0 seconds over the lengthy course. The varsity crew won the Women's Championship Eight in a time of 21:47.3, ahead of Oregon State at 22:40.3, Cornell at 22:44.9 and Minnesota at 23:31.1.
On the men's side, the Husky varsity won the Championship Eight in a time of 19:38.0, followed by the Beavers at 20:00.0 and Cornell at 20.15. The UW junior varsity eight won its open race in 20:26.4, ahead of two crews from Oregon State and another from Pacific Lutheran.
The Huskies conclude their Fall racing season with the Pair Head Race Nov. 11 followed by the Head of the Lake competition Nov. 12. Both events take place on the Montlake Cut in Seattle and begin at 8 a.m.
