Washington Establishes Fund for Curtis Williams

Nov. 6, 2000

SEATTLE - Washington athletic director Barbara Hedges today announced plans to create a fund for those wishing to make contributions to help support the long-term care of injured Husky football player Curtis Williams, who suffered a spinal injury in an Oct. 28 game at Stanford.

Hedges said the fund will be established within the University's Central Development Office to support Williams with his long-term care and to assist with expenses over and above those covered by family, University and NCAA catastrophic injury insurance programs.

'While Curtis' medical treatment will be fully covered by insurance policies presently in place, including the NCAA catastrophic coverage, we have had a number of requests to offer financial contributions for his overall assistance,' Hedges said. 'We appreciate this outpouring of support and want this special fund to address extraordinary expenses that may not be covered by existing insurance.'

The Curtis Williams fund will be able to assist with health care deductibles, home health care benefits, rehabilitation expense benefits, adjustment expense benefits for the immediate family, special home and motor vehicle accommodation benefits, college education benefits and other related expenses approved by the senior associate athletic director for business and finance.

At such a time in the future that funds are no longer needed for the support of Williams, the remaining funds shall be used to establish the 'Curtis Williams Scholarship' at the University of Washington.

Donations may send to the:

Williams currently remains in intensive care at the Stanford Medical Center.
