Women's Basketball Picked To Finish First In The Pac-10

Nov. 6, 2000

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - With eight returning letter-winners, including four starters, the Stanford women's basketball team has been selected as the team to beat in the 2000-01 Pacific-10 Conference race according to a poll of media members. In addition, Stanford has two of the five members of the Preseason All-Pac-10 team in senior center Carolyn Moos (Wayzata, MN/Blake School) and sophomore guard Jamie Carey (Thornton, CO/Horizon HS).

Stanford, which finished tied for second in the conference last season at 13-5, was last tabbed as the Pac-10 preseason favorite by the media in 1997-98. The Cardinal has won nine of the 14 Pac-10 titles since the conference began sponsoring the sport in 1986-87.

Moos, who was named Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 each of the last two years, led the Cardinal in both scoring (12.4 pg) and rebounding (5.5 pg) last season. Carey was the 1999-2000 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, and set a new Stanford record for 3-pointers in a single season with 81.
