Second Cardinal Squad In Third At Dusty Destruel Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. - While some members of the Stanford golf team are competing in The Prestige at Palm Desert, the Cardinal sent a second team to the Dusty Destruel Invitational at Silver Creek Valley Country Club.

Stanford is in third place after shooting rounds of 304 and 312 for a 619 total. Santa Clara leads the 10-team tournament with a 599 while San Jose State (606), CSU San Marcos (619) and Chico (625) round out the top five.

Freshmen Blake Mastalir (Englewood, CO) and Brian Sinay (Irvine, CA) are tied for third individually at 149, five-over par. Mastalir shot a 75 and a 74, while Sinay posted an even-par 72 and a 77.

Senior Rudy Barreto (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) is tied for 26th with rounds of 77 and 81. Ned Yetten (Andover, MI) shot a pair of 80s, good for 33rd place, and Sean Zaharakes checked in with an 81 and 87 (51st).

Santa Clara's Michael Melling is the individual leader with a 145 (+3) while San Jose State's Bryant Reyes is three strokes off the pace at 148 (+6).

The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday.
