Pac-10 Player of the Week

California defender Robbie Aylesworth was named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 31 - Nov. 5, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced. The freshman from Phoenix, Ariz., led a surging Cal team with two goals during the week. He tallied a goal in the 3-2 loss to No. 1 San Jose State, then added a game-winner against No. 3 Indiana, upsetting the two-time defending national champions, 2-1. This is the first weekly honor for Aylesworth and California's first Player of the Week honor all-time.

ALSO NOMINATED: Scott Leber, STAN, Mike Casale, WASH.

Pac-10 Notebook

CALIFORNIA: The Bears have won four out of six down the stretch, including a 2-1 upset over No. 3 Indiana last weekend (Nov. 5)... Cal will close the 2000 campaign with Pac-10 powerhouses Washington and UCLA... With two victories in the final weekend, Cal will claim sole possession of third place in the Conference, a notch higher than where the coaches picked them in the preseason.

OREGON STATE: The Beavers will close their season at No. 4/No. 1 Stanford this week, an opponent OSU has only defeated once in its history (5-0, 1995). Oregon State lost the last time the two teams met, 2-1... Freshman goalie Peter Billmeyer is second in the Conference in total saves (50) and saves per game (4.17).

STANFORD: The Cardinal are now 3-0-1 against Top 15 teams in the country with their 1-0 overtime victory over Indiana in the California adidas-legacy Classic (Nov. 4). Last week's Pac-10 Player of the Week, Scott Leber, scored the game-winning goal against the Hoosiers. Leber's team-leading and career-high 12 goals are the most in Stanford history since Randy Goad netted a dozen goals back in 1993. Leber is also tied for the team-lead with three game-winners this season... The Cardinal can clinch at least a share of the Pac-10 title with victories over UCLA and Oregon State this weekend.

UCLA: The once invincible Bruins are now 2-6 since they won eight straight to start the season... In UCLA's loss at Washington (Nov. 3), freshman forward Cliff McKinley scored the lone Bruin goal. Freshman goalie DJ Countess also added four saves in the match.

WASHINGTON: UW has now taken four straight from UCLA, with its 2-1 victory over the Bruins (Nov. 3)... The Huskies will close out their campaign in Berkeley to take on an up and coming Cal team, whom Washington has defeated four consecutive times as well... UW can clinch at least a share of the Pac-10 title with a win at Cal on Friday... Senior captain Mike Casale was an influential defender in wins over UCLA and Oregon State (Nov. 5). In those two games, the Huskies gave up just one goal combined.
