Oregon Wrestling Signs First Two Recruits Of 2001 Class
Nov. 14, 2000
The University of Oregon wrestling team signed its first two recruits of the 2001 recruiting class, head coach Chuck Kearney announced today. Chet McBee (149), a senior at Eagle Point High School and Shane Webster (174), a senior at Crater High School, will join the Ducks for the 2001-2002 season.
Webster, who wrestles in the 160 weight class at Crater, is ranked No. 1 in the nation at that weight class according to Intermat. Intermat also ranks him the seventh-best recruit overall. He is a two-time state champion and won the Reno Tournament of Champions in 1999. Webster's record over the last two seasons is 78-3.
'Shane is a national level recruit,' Kearney said. 'There are things we'll work on, but the intangibles he brings separate him. We think he's the next great wrestler in the state of Oregon.'
McBee placed at the state championships in 1999.
'Chet has the potential to be a very good college wrestler,' Kearney said. 'Technically he's very solid and he's got great quickness. His best year's are definitely ahead of him.'
