Dawghouse Diary

Nov. 15, 2000

'Last week was a great one for us. A lot of us hadn't beaten UCLA and it was a nice way to end our last game at Husky Stadium. It was very exciting. We are happy that we could have an undefeated season at home and also win our last game here. The reason for winning is that the offensive line just kicked butt. They were physical, they dominated the line of scrimmage and we were able to rush for over 300 yards. Anytime you do that, you have a good chance at winning. My hat goes off to them and our backs, who ran hard like they have every week. Jerramy (Stevens) made a big play, running down the sideline and catching the ball. The offense was good to roll. The only thing that stopped us was ourselves. It was nice to get things going.

It looks like the train is heading in a nice direction. We didn't have to come back in the fourth quarter this time and we played well. But we can still play better. That is what we are shooting for this weekend against WSU in the Apple Cup, to play our best game, the most complete game we can put together. The bottom line is that we are going to play our butts off and if we have to come back in the fourth quarter, I know we will. Hopefully, it won't get to that point but you never know with the Apple Cup. It is an intense and crazy game.

Our motive is not to go into this game playing well to make sure we don't screw things up. When you do that, you usually don't play your best because you are playing cautious, and you usually end up losing. We are going to approach this game the same as we have all year long. It is another game on our schedule and we play games to win, to play our best and to earn respect from our opponents. That is why we play this game. We don't play for any other reason. We want to play well because we want to be the best. That is our motivation. I think that if we can keep that as our focus, it will go well.

I am going to be focused. It is our last game and they say you remember your last game, so we want to play well. We want to finish the season right-finish something that we started. We don't want to leave things unfinished, so we have focusing on doing that. We have had a great week of practice so far and we have a couple of more days to prepare. I think that we will go into Pullman ready to play a game, so now it is just up to going out and getting it done on the field.

Classes are going well. It was the regular routine this week. It is getting down to finals week. I've been to class, taken good notes, and am trying to make sure I will be ready when they finally hit us. My folks came over the other night with some our friends and our friends parents. It was Apple Cup week, so they brought us over some apple pies and made candy caramel apples. It was fun, but nothing out of the ordinary is going on this week. It is just a regular game week, just classes and practice, no tests yet.

I can't wait until Thanksgiving to taste my mom's food. Thanksgiving is a lot of fun, not only because of the food, but I get to spend time with family. Hopefully all of our family and friends will get together, hang out for the day and eat lots of good turkey and give thanks for what we have been blessed with and what we have been given. In this day and age, we have been given a lot so it is a good time to be thankful. I am looking forward to it. It will be nice to be able to sit back and rest our bodies and get healthy again and get right and to prepare for whatever may happen for us. Have a good Thanksgiving. I will talk to you after we get back.'
