Nov. 15, 2000
The Cal women's crew traveled to Seattle last weekend to race in Head of the Lake regatta, November 12. Racing in chilly, but calm, conditions the Bears were bested by Washington and the University of Victoria, the Canadian collegiate champion, in the women's open eight. In the women's JV event, Washington nipped Cal by a narrow margin for the win, and the Cal frosh placed a respectable fourth in the women's 3rd-varsity event.
The Head of the Lake marked the completion of Cal's fall schedule, and the crew now turn its eyes toward the spring. 'We had 12 sophomores between the varsity and JV crews, so this is a very young team,' said. said head coach Dave O'Neill. 'The progress we have made this fall has been terrific, and today's experience is part of the learning process.'
