Oregon Volleyball Falls 3-0 To Stanford

The Universtity of Oregon volleyball team fell 15-8, 15-12, 15-5 to Stanford in front of 1,110 fans at Maples Pavilion. Oregon is 10-16 overall, 2-15 Pac-10 and the Cardinal improve to 16-11, 9-8.

'We didn't execute our system,' head coach Carl Ferreira said. 'And we didn't play aggressive volleyball for a sustained period of time.'

Oregon was led by junior Monique Tobbagi, who had nine kills, seven digs and three block assists. Senior Amy Banducci had eight kills and three digs. Setter Sydney Chute added five kills, 18 assists and hit .364.

Stanford was led by Logan Tom's 17 kills and .636 hitting percentage. The Cardinal outkilled (58-29) and outdug (40-34) Oregon and finished the match with a .372 overall attack percentage.

In Game 1, Stanford took a 6-1 lead, but a block by Tobbagi and freshman Alisha Stevens on a Tom attempt stalled the Cardinal run. Oregon scored three straight points to narrow the gap, 6-3. The Cardinal eventually went up 12-5 on kills by Tom and Ashley Ivy, but Oregon pulled within four points, 13-8, after kills Tobbagi and Chute.

The Cardinal took a 9-2 lead in Game 2 behind strong serving by Tom. Senior Halie Mazza and Chute ended the rally with a block, but Stanford used a 5-0 run to go ahead 14-3. Oregon defensive specialist Kristin Ferris sparked a 9-0 run with two service aces and the Ducks held off seven Stanford game points before a kill by Tom secured the win, 15-12.

'We didn't sustain our level of competitiveness,' Tobbagi said. 'We dug ourselves into holes early on and weren't able to sustain a high level of play throughout to dig ourselves out.'

Stanford kept the momentum into Game 3, taking a 9-0 lead before Oregon scored five straight. The Cardinal finished the game with a 5-0 run to win the match.

Oregon plays California Friday at 7:00 p.m.
