Storey, Knight Lead Sun Devils Past Southern Utah

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Awvee Storey and Donnell Knight had career highs of 26and 21 points, respectively, as Arizona State defeated Southern Utah 94-72Friday night.

Knight scored 16 in the first half, when the Sun Devils (2-1) took a 50-31lead, and Storey had 16 in the second half to help Arizona State hold theThunderbirds (0-1) at bay.

Alton Mason had a career-high 12 assists, 13 points and six rebounds, andShawn Redhage and Chad Prewitt each scored 12 points for the Sun Devils.

Jeff Monaco led Southern Utah with 19 points, Frederick House scored 15 andDan Beus and Justin Sant had 11 apiece.

Monaco had 12 points in the second half, including eight in a 2:48 span whenhe led a 12-4 spurt that cut Arizona State's lead to 65-52. Sant started therally with a jumper, and Monaco made two 3-pointers and banked in a jumper.

House blew a dunk, but got the rebound and made a layup that got theThunderbirds within 13 points with 12:33 left in the game.

But Storey nailed the last two of three straight baskets in the next 1:24,and Arizona pulled away again.

Knight and Redhage took turns leading sustained rallies in the first half.

Knight made three mid-range jumpers during an 11-1 surge that sent ArizonaState to a 15-10 lead in the first 5:47, and Redhage had seven points in a 20-2run that extended the lead to 42-22 with 3:05 left in the half.
