Oregon Volleyball Falls 3-1 To Texas-El Paso In Final Match Of The Season

The Oregon volleyball team ended the 2000 season with a 2-15, 15-12, 16-14, 15-9 loss to Texas-El Paso at the final day of the Hilton Classic in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Ducks finish the season 10-19 overall, 2-16 Pac-10.

Junior Monique Tobbagi led Oregon with 19 kills, eight digs and had four service aces. Senior Halie Mazza had a double-double (17 kills, 10 digs) and setter Sydney Chute was two kills away from her second consecutive triple-double (eight kills, 27 assists, 13 digs). Mazza also had a team-high four blocks.

Oregon had 11 service aces in the match and hit .215 to Texas-El Paso's .208, but were plagued by errors in Game 4 (11). Texas-El Paso was led by Jennifer Abbruzzeese, who had 21 kills and nine digs. The Miners had more kills (72-65) and more blocks (12-8) than Oregon. The team's each had 62 digs.

Setter Julie Gerlach had a strong serving night, tallying four service aces. Gerlach added seven kills, 15 assists and 12 digs. Defensively, Oregon was led by senior Amy Banducci, who had 18 digs.
