Women's Basketball Falls To BYU, 68-53

Provo, UT - The UCLA Women's Basketball team fell to 0-4 after a 68-53 loss to BYU at Provo, Utah in the Cougars' home season opener.
Freshman Heather Cheesman led the BYU effort with 16 points and six rebounds, followed by Caroline Beus, who also scored in double digits with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds. The win brings the Cougars' record to 1-1.
The Cougars had a slim five-point 33-28 advantage at halftime but were able to extend the lead to as much as 15 points early on in the second half and up to 19 points twice. BYU's strong defensive effort held off the Bruins to just nine points in a six-minute span midway through the second period.
UCLA's Michelle Greco led all scorers with 24 points and also grabbed a team-best and career-high tying eight rebounds. Point guard Natalie Nakase had a career-high six assists. Malika Leatham had seven points, and Jamila Veasley contributed a career-best six points.
The Bruins shot 33 percent from the field and 75 percent at the free-throw line. BYU shot 47 percent from the field and 55 percent at the line.
