Women's Volleyball Wins Thanksgiving Classic Title

WACO, TX - The UCLA women's volleyball team improved its record to 22-7 on the season on Saturday with a win over host Baylor (Record) in the championship match of the Baylor Thanksgiving Classic. Game scores were 15-9, 15-7, 15-8.
The Bruins hit .333 as a team in the first game of the match, and were led by junior outside hitter Kristee Porter, who had eight kills in the opening game. Elisabeth Bachman also contributed four blocks in the 15-9 win.
In the second game, the Bruins hit .476 as a team with Porter contributing nine of the team's 23 kills in the 15-7 game win. Game three started with a tight battle, as the teams traded points to the 8-8 mark. From there, however, the Bruins rattled off seven straight points to take the game and match with a 15-8 win.
Porter led the Bruins with 22 kills in the match, while hitting .514 with two service aces and nine digs. She was one of three Bruins in double figures, as Ashley Bowles double-doubled with 12 kills and 14 digs, and Elisabeth Bachman had 11 kills and six blocks in the last regular season match of her career.
Bachman and Bowles were named to the Baylor Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team, and Porter was named the Tournament MVP. UCLA returns to Westwood on Sunday, and will await the announcement of the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship field. The Bruins, who finished third in the Pac-10 behind co-champions Arizona and USC, expect to be included in the NCAA field, and hope to host a first and second round site.
