Wynn, Newman Named To Pac-10 Team

Nov. 27, 2000

PULLMAN, Wash. -- - Juniors Milton Wynn and Billy Newman from Washington State University were named to the Pacific-10 Conference football team announced Monday by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen.

Wynn, who led all WSU receivers with 52 receptions, was named to the second team offensive unit and Newman, who led the Cougars with 100 tackles, was a second team selection on defense.

Newman, from Laguna Niguel, Calif., intercepted four passes, deflected nine and made six tackles-for-losses while leading the Cougar defense from his strong safety position. The Santa Margarita High graduate was named to the league's honorable mention unit in 1999. Newman made a career-high 18 tackles against Arizona State, missing by one tackle the best performance in the league. His 9.1 tackles per game ranked third in the Pac-10 and his four interceptions ranked fifth in the league.

Wynn ended the season ranked second in the Pac-10, averaging 87.6 yards per game, and fourth in receptions with 4.73 per game. His 964 reception yards moved him into fourth on WSU's single season list, while his 52 receptions was just two short of a spot on the WSU Top 10 list. Wynn had four games with 100 yards or more receiving, including three straight. He caught six passes for 132 yards at Utah, seven for 151 yards against Idaho, and then six for 125 yards at California.

In addition to the two second-team picks, WSU was represented by five players who received honorable mention recognition. They were quarterback Jason Gesser and guard Derrick Roche on offense, tackle Tomasi Kongaika, linebacker Raonall Smith and cornerback Marcus Trufant defensively.
