Ducks Men's Hoops Gets Win Over Portland

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Frederick Jones scored 16 points as Oregon received ascare from Portland but held on to win 66-60 Tuesday night.

Luke Ridnour and Anthony Norwood had 11 points each for the Ducks, who areoff to a 4-0 start for only the second time in 23 years and the first time infour seasons.

Reserve Ryan Jones led Portland (2-2) with 15 points.

Oregon had its 12-point halftime lead nearly erased when its cold shootingat the start of the second half opened the door for a 17-3 run by the Pilots,who got within 45-44 with 9:26 remaining in the game.

But Norwood hit a 3-pointer for the Ducks and Jones added a jumper and adunk to give Oregon a 52-44 cushion.

Portland wouldn't go away, though, and with 24 seconds remaining, Ryan Jonesmade a lay up and was fouled by Frederick Jones. His free throw made it 62-60.

But the Pilots couldn't make another shot after that, and Ridnour and LukeJackson each sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds to secure theDucks' victory.

Both teams shot 40 percent from the field in the game and were each whistledfor 23 fouls. Oregon was outrebounded 34-32.

Oregon took its first lead of the game with 12 minutes left in the firsthalf when Flo Hartenstein hit two free throws to make it 15-13. A 13-2 run gavethe Ducks a 37-25 going into halftime.
