Stanford Saga
Stanford is off to another strong start in 2000-01 ... Winners of five straight games, the Cardinal travels to Long Beach State, where the Cardinal is expected to face a hostile, soldout crowd and a 49er team that is among the favorites in the Big West Conference, and a candidate for post-season play ... In the last three seasons, Stanford has started the season in grand fashion ... Last year, the Cardinal won its first 12 games ... In 1998-99, Stanford started the year 17-2, and during the 1997-98 campaign, Stanford started the year 18-0.

Series Story
Stanford and Long Beach State have met only once and that game was decided in favor of the Cardinal, 80-77, during first round play of the post-season NIT (1987-88 season) ... That game was significant in that this was Stanford's post-season tournament play of any sorts (NCAA or NIT) since the 1942 season, the year Stanford won the NCAA championship ... Stanford is 52-13 against Big West schools, and has not lost to a Big West school since a 77-76 verdict at UC Santa Barbara during the 1977-78 season.

Jacobsen scored 60 points (16-for-29 from the floor, 8-for-15 from three-point territory) and grabbed 13 rebounds in the three games ... Jacobsen was named the tournament MVP.

Collins Corner
They were born eight minutes apart, and have been playing basketball since the age of six ... Jarron and Jason Collins are now in the starting lineup for the nationally-ranked Cardinal and making a major impact ... Combined they are totaling 23.6 points and 17.8 rebounds per game ... In their last game against UC Riverside (11/29), Jarron and Jason each produced a double-double, the second-time in their careers that has happened in the same game ... The first time was in the championship game of the Coaches vs Cancer Tournament against Iowa last year when Jason scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Jarron scored 17 points and grabbed eleven rebounds ... Against UC Riverside, Jason tallied a career-high 19 points and eleven rebounds, while Jarron chalked up 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Borchardt Bio
He missed the last eleven games of the 1999-00 season with a stress fracture in his right foot ... And then he was hampered by bone spurs in his foot that required surgery during the summer ... Thus he came back to Stanford not in the greatest shape and not expected to contribute right away ... But Curtis Borchardt (7-0, 230 pounds, Sophomore) has made a remarkable comeback even though he is not 100 percent ... Coming off the bench and averaging 19.0 minutes per game, Borchardt is averaging 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game ... Borchardt already has eleven blocks ... Last year, in 20 games he blocked 42 shots, and was well on his way to breaking the school record of 50 before he was sidelined for the last eleven games with a stress fracture in his right foot ... In 24 career games at Stanford, Borchardt has 52 blocks, eighth-best in school history.
