Husky Invitational Kicks-Off With 1000-Yard Freestyle

SEATTLE - The 52nd annual Husky Invitational kicked off Thursday with the 1000-yard freestyle at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center. Local standouts Brian Davis of Issaquah Swim Team (9:3089) and Jamie Tamhauser of Salmon Bay Aquatics (9:59.37) came out with the event titles in the first of four days of swimming action.

The University of Washington men's team, meanwhile, had five swimmers place within the top 15 in the 1000 free, led by freshman John Lyssand (Gig Harbor, Wash.), who finished seventh with a time of 9:39.13. Lyssand's classmates, Chris Monson (Seattle, Wash.) and Leonceo Angsioco (Oak Harbor, Wash.), placed 10th (9:47.67) and 12th (9:52.31) respectively. Junior Josh Hickman (Blaine, Wash.) also recorded a 13th-place finish (9:52.85) and freshman Jesse Nitz (Puyallup, Wash.) rounded out the top Husky finishers in 15th (9:55.90).

On the women's side, sophomore April Cheadle (East Wenatchee, Wash.) came in with the 20th-fastest time of the day of 10:44.72 and freshman Samantha Brace (Seattle, Wash.) placed 22nd in 10:52.98.

The Husky Invitational continues Friday with day-two action with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finals set for 5:30 p.m.
