Dec. 5, 2000

STANFORD, Calif. - Pat Phillips (Athens, GA) and Kevin Blue (Toronto, Canada) have signed letters of intent to study and compete at Stanford University next fall, announced head golf coach Jeff Mitchell today.

Phillips, who attends Athens Academy, was the 1997 Atlanta Junior Golf Association Player of the Year as well as the 1998 and 1999 Athens Academy Most Valuable Player. He won the SJGT Junior Classic at Oak Point Golf Course.

'Pat is a great young man, a brilliant student and a terrific golfer,' said Mitchell. 'He will be a great asset to the team. He has been ranked as high as #3 in the nation and deserves his ranking. He and I are both very excited and pleased that he has chosen Stanford as his academic and athletic choice.'

Blue, who attends Lawrence Park C.I., won the 1999 Canadian Junior Match Play Championship and was honored as Athlete of the Year at Lawrence Park C.I.

'I'm really excited about Kevin Blue coming to Stanford,' Mitchell said. 'Kevin is an excellent student, a very good golfer, and a fine young man. He will be a very important part of what should be an extremely good golf team in the future.'
