Moore Leads Cougars Past Grizzlies

Dec. 12, 2000

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Freshman Marcus Moore (Inglewood, Calif.) scored a season-high 25 points to lead Washington State to a 67-54 win over Montana, Tuesday.

The win was the second straight for the Cougars who improved to 4-2. Senior Eddie Miller (Reseda, Calif) and sophomore David Adams (Tacoma) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Moore's effort also included a season-high six steals and was much needed because WSU's leading scorer, sophomore Jerry McNair (Torrance, Calif) was held scoreless by the Grizzlies (3-5).

'I think you saw a guy named Marcus Moore come of age tonight,' WSU head coach Paul Graham said. 'Teams that have scouted us know Jerry McNair is a shooter. The scouting report says play off of Marcus because he can't shoot, but he really can shoot and you saw that tonight.'

The Cougars trailed 36-35 at the half before opening the second half on a 12-0 run to take a lead they would never relinquish. Moore keyed the run with six points.

The Grizzlies responded with a 12-2 run to close to within 49-48 at the 10:35 mark. Moore increased the WSU lead to 52-48 on a trey with 10:08 to play.

'I've been telling the coaches I was going to get a few threes,' Moore said. 'When I got the first one, it felt good. I thought why not keep shooting them.'

After a layup by Montana's Dan Trammel cut the Grizzlies deficit to 52-50, WSU outscored Montana 15-4 over the final 9:44 to post the 13-point win. Trammel led the Grizzlies with 16 points.

WSU will play at Utah, Saturday at 7 p.m. MST.
