Pahl And Ross Receive All-American Honors

RICHMOND, VA. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association will present the 20th annual All-America awards Friday at the AVCA All-America/Player of the Year banquet at the Richmond (Va.) Marriott Hotel. Among them, USC junior midle blocker Jennifer Pahl and freshman April Ross are to be named to the All-America second team.

Pahl and Ross have helped guide the Trojans to their first appearance in the NCAA semifinals in 15 years and first-ever share of the conference title. This season, the duo combines to lead USC in kills and blocks, and have each garnered All-Pac-10 and All-Region accolades. This is the first AVCA All-America honor for both players.

Long Beach State University junior Cheryl Weaver and Stanford University sophomore Logan Tom are repeat AVCA Division I First-Team All-America selections from 1999. Loyola Marymount University senior Sarah McFarland, UCLA junior Kristee Porter and Brigham Young University junior Nina Puikkonen are two-time All-Americans having moved up from the 1999 AVCA Division I Second-Team All-American squad to the first-team in 2000. Nicole Branagh, a senior from the University of Minnesota, is a two-time AVCA Division I Second-Team All-American.

The selections are made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee: Katie Weismiller, Indiana, Chair, Bonnie Kenny, Massachusetts, Cindy Gannon, Southeast Missouri State, Janice Kruger, Maryland, John Dunning, Pacific, Jeff Nelson, Texas Tech, Judy Green, Alabama, Denise Corlett, Stanford University, and Sharon Dingman, Illinois State, AVCA Awards Chair.
