Men's Basketball Downs Mercer

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Shawn Redhage scored 18 points and Donnell Knight had 16to lead Arizona State to a 59-42 victory over Mercer Wednesday night.

Knight was effective from long range, going 4-of-7 from 3-point range on anight when Arizona State (6-2) shot just 30 percent from the field.

Redhage did his damage at the free throw line, hitting all nine of hisattempts. Awvee Storey added 10 points for the Sun Devils.

Mercer (5-4) also struggled shooting, making 35 percent of its field goals.Scott Emerson led the Bears with 16 points and Rodney Kirtz had 15.

Arizona State used a 10-point run midway through the half to build a 26-21lead at intermission.

A 14-4 run with 18:44 remaining in the game sealed the victory for the SunDevils. Redhage scored seven of his points in that spurt.

Besides its shooting woes, Mercer also had trouble taking care of the ball,committing 28 turnovers.

The 42 points is the lowest given up by an Arizona State team in its threeyears under Rob Evans.
