Women's Basketball Online Chat Schedule Announced

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Each Wednesday during conference play, a Pac-10 women's basketball player will drop in for a special chat and take questions on the conference race, women's hoops and the college basketball scene. The chats will be featured on the Pac-10's official website, www.pac-10.org.
Washington State senior point guard Katie Nyseth kicks off the series of 2001 chats on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 (time TBA). Nyseth, a native of Cheshire, Ore., paces the Pac-10 in assist-turnover ratio (2.56), ranks second in 3-point field goal percentage (.471), third in assists (5.12 avg.) and fourth in steals (2.50 avg.). The Cougars (4-4) are next in action at the Montana Lady Griz Classic, Dec. 29-30.

Nyseth is one of eight finalists for the second annual One-On-One Sports Socrates Award. The award is presented annually to the college athlete who best exemplifies excellence in athletics, academics and the Socrates creed 'Strong Mind In A Strong Body.' Nyseth was named the 2000 Rutgers University Coca-Cola Classic Scholar Athlete on Nov. 24.In addition, she received All-Tournament Team honors at the Classic, averaging 10 points, five rebounds, 4.5 assists and two steals in two games. On Dec. 2, she was named to Successful Farming \ Magazine's All American Women's Basketball Farm Team. The All American Farm Team is a scholastic program honoring outstanding college athletes who call a farm or ranch home. A Biological Systems Engineering major, Nyseth carries a 3.86 GPA.
Nyseth was honored last year as the College of Agriculture and the Biological Systems Engineering Junior of the Year. In addition, she was a 2000 Pacific-10 All-Academic Team selection. With 298 career assists, Nyseth ranks seventh on the Cougars' all-time list in that category. She is just nine assists shy of Penny Bowden (307 assists, 1987-88) for sixth position. Nyseth is currently averaging 7.1 points and 3.6 rebounds a game.
