Arizona State Cruises Past Belmont

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Tommy Smith had a career-high 20 points to lead ArizonaState to an easy 92-44 victory over Belmont Friday night.

The Sun Devils (7-2) only led by 7 midway through the first half, but wenton a 28-6 run into the intermission. Belmont (6-6) came no closer than 28points in the second half.

Smith, who was averaging 4.1 points per game, hit 9 of 10 shots from thefield for the Sun Devils. Awvee Storey added 19 and Donnell Knight had 13 forASU.

Wes Burtner led Belmont with 22 points.

The Bruins entered the game averaging nine 3-pointers per game, but missedtheir first nine from behind the arc. They finished 6-of-24 from 3-point range.

The Sun Devils, who shot just 30 percent from the field in their lastouting, hit 57 percent of their shots Friday.

Belmont's 17 points is the fewest ASU has given up in a half since holdingOld Dominion to 12 points Jan. 7, 1995.
