ASU Falls To Cal

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Sean Lampley had 21 points, leadingCalifornia in scoring for the ninth consecutive game, as the GoldenBears beat Arizona State 82-67 Saturday night for their firstvictory in Tempe since Jan. 25, 1990.

Shantay Legans had 16 points and five steals, and Solomon Hughesand Joe Shipp contributed 15 points each off the bench, helping theBears (9-4, 1-1 Pac-10), bounce back from a three-point loss toArizona on Thursday which snapped their seven-game winning streak.

Legans scored three times on layups after stolen passes andassisted on another.

Alton Mason had 21 of his 25 points in the second half, andAwvee Storey had 17 points and 13 rebounds, but the Sun Devils(8-5, 0-2) couldn't keep their 10-game home winning streak againstCal going.

The Sun Devils had held 20 of their last 23 opponents below 50percent, but they didn't come close against Cal, which made aseason-high 58.3 percent. Lampley was 7-of-13, Hughes 6-of-6,Legans 5-of-7 and Shipp 5-of-8.

And the Bears came back to outrebound Arizona State 18-13 in thesecond half after allowing the Sun Devils a 25-11 margin in thefirst.

Despite that, Cal led 29-18 at halftime, and practically decidedthe game with a 5-0 surge in the first 1:49 of the second half.

Nick Vander Laan established Cal's rebounding ethic with aputback, Lampley made a free throw, and Legans made it 34-18 whenhe stole a pass by Shawn Redhage and scored easily.

The lead reached 49-29 at the 7:01 mark after Legans made a3-pointer and a layup after another steal 27 seconds apart.

Legans' first stolen-pass layup made it 5-4 at the 6:20 mark ofthe first half, and the Bears never trailed again.
