Arizona State Loses Heartbreaker In OT

SEATTLE (AP) - Will Perkins and C.J. Massingale scored 13 points apiece tolead Washington to a 70-68 overtime victory over the Arizona State Sun DevilsThursday night.

The Huskies snapped a four-game losing streak, scoring nine of their 12points during overtime at the free throw line.

Arizona State (8-6, 0-3 Pac-10) missed two shots in the final five secondsof the game. Kyle Dodd's 3-point attempt was short and Donnell Knight's putbackdid not hit the rim as the clock expired for the Sun Devils.

Massingale's free throw with 11.9 seconds left in the game pushed the Huskylead to two points, which proved to be enough for the Huskies' first conferencevictory of the season.

Washington (7-8, 1-2) was outrebounded 55-31, but made 11 of 24 from 3-pointrange. Grant Leep scored all nine of his points on 3-of-3 shooting from behindthe 3-point line.

Awvee Storey pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds and gave the Sun Devils a66-64 lead with 2:09 to play in the extra period. It was their last lead of thegame. Knight led Arizona State with 15 points and had 13 rebounds. Alton Mason,who averaged 27.5 points over the previous two games, scored 12.

Knight tied the game at 58 when he put back his own miss in the paint with7.7 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

Arizona State was without starting center Chad Prewitt, sidelined with asprained right ankle.

The Huskies jumped out to a 13-6 lead when Perkins scored on a fast breaklayup six minutes into the game. Arizona State responded with a 16-4 run overthe next 6:30.

Arizona State held a 32-27 advantage at halftime.
