Washington State Defeated By No. 21 Arizona

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Gilbert Arenas scored 22 points on six 3-pointers asNo. 21 Arizona beat Washington State 84-51 Thursday night.

Arizona (9-5, 2-1 Pac-10) has won 31 straight against Washington State,dating to 1986.

Washington State (6-6, 0-3) lost its third straight and hit a season low inpoints. It was the third straight game the Cougars have failed to score 60points.

Arenas made all five of his 3-pointers in a nine-minute span around halftimeto bury the Cougars.

Assistant head coach Jim Rosborough evened his record at 2-2 in place ofLute Olson, who took a leave of absence last month to care for his wife Bobbi.Bobbi Olson died last week.

Washington State took advantage of some poor early shooting by Arizona tostay with the Wildcats, trailing 14-13 with 8:55 left in the first half afterEddie Miller's long jumper.

But Arizona went on a 27-6 run, including four consecutive 3-pointers - twoeach by Arenas and Jason Gardner - to go ahead 41-19 at halftime. The Cougarsnever threatened after that.

Arenas had 13 points in the first half as Arizona connected on five of seven3-pointers.

Washington State made just 25 percent of its shots in the first half andcommitted 11 turnovers. Mike Bush, the Cougars leading scorer at 18 points pergame, was scoreless in the first half.

Michael Wright and Loren Woods added 17 points apiece for the Wildcats.Gardner had 16.

Miller led Washington State with 12 points.
