Jan. 11, 2001
SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies women's swimming team will play host to Pac-10 foe Oregon State in the team's first and only home dual-meet of the season Saturday at Husky Pool at 1 p.m. The UW holds a 23-0 all-time record over the Beavers, including a 147-115 win last year in Corvallis, Ore.
'Oregon State is going to give us a run for our money,' UW head coach Mickey Wender said. 'We're going to try to make this meet as exciting as possible because it's our last and only home meet of the season.'
The UW women enter this week's meet with a 4-7 overall record in 2001 and are coming off a split last week at Air Force (W, 127-96) and Brigham Young (L, 108-131). Sophomore Kim Harada (San Lorenzo, Calif.) has led the charge this season for the Huskies, having won both the 100 and 200 freestyle in each of her last five meets, while going undefeated in 17 of her 19 regular season events.
The Beavers, meanwhile, enter this Saturday's meet with a 6-2 record and have been led by freshman Birte Steven and sophomore Naya Higashijima. Under coach Mariusz Podkoscielny, the Beavers' roster includes Washington native Kristin Martinec of Tacoma, Wash.
