ASU Men's Hoops Stuck All Day In Seattle

Jan. 12, 2001

BAD LUCK ON TRAVEL: The Arizona State men's basketball team has a game Saturday at 3 p.m. against Washington State on Fox Sports Arizona in Pullman. Whether or not they eventually get there is another story. Arizona State arrived at Seattle Airport at 11:45 a.m. Friday for its 1 p.m. scheduled flight to Spokane. The Alaskan flight was cancelled, and because of the problems that exist in rescheduling seats for the travel party of 27 that includes players, coaches, staff and radio crew, the only accommodating flight is a 10 p.m. flight from Seattle to Spokane. The Sun Devils tried to bus the six-plus hours to Pullman, but a bus and driver could not be obtained on short notice until the evening. The Sun Devils, if that flight is on schedule, will arrive in Spokane around 11 p.m. and then will have another 60 miles on a bus. Pullman also has been hit with snowfall. Add in the time it takes to get luggage for 27 people, ASU is 'scheduled' to get to its hotel in Moscow, Idaho, around 1 a.m. The Sun Devils are looking at a nine-hour 'layover' at the airport followed by a one-hour flight and then a one-hour ride through the snow-covered mountains of Washington. The actual time of arrival at the hotel will be posted on the website tonight.
