Oregon State Falls To Cal, 81-67

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Joe Shipp came off the bench to score a season-high21 points to lead California to an 81-67 win over injury-riddled Oregon Stateon Saturday night.

Sean Lampley added 20 points and six rebounds for the Bears (11-4, 3-1 inthe Pac-10), who won their 12th consecutive game at Haas Pavilion dating backto last season.

Brian Jackson matched Shipp with 21 points to lead Oregon State (0-3, 6-9),which was forced to play the final 4:45 with just six players after Jacksonfouled out. The Beavers, decimated by injuries that left them with only sevenplayers suited up, were without center Jason Heide, the team's leading scorerand rebounder who aggravated an ankle injury in Thursday's 73-49 loss toStanford.

The Bears, by comparison, used all 15 of their players after emptying thebench in the final minutes of the game.

California led 39-23 at halftime but rode the hot shooting of Shipp andSolomon Hughes. Shipp, averaging 7.2 points a game prior to facing OregonState, scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half and combined with Hughesto score 17 of the Bears' 19 points during one stretch.

Hughes finished with 14 points and six rebounds for the Bears, who won forthe 10th time in their last 11 games.

Oregon State entered the game leading the Pac-10 in defense, allowing onlyan average of 59.9 points a game. But it was the Beavers' offense that keptthem in the game, as they sank seven 3-pointers in the second half and 12overall.

Deaundra Tanner's lay-up on a backdoor pass from Mike Cokley with 9:30 leftto play pulled Oregon State within 57-47, but the Beavers could get no closer.

Emonte Jernigan scored 20 points while Tanner added 16 for Oregon State,which lost its fourth straight game and nine of its last 11.
