No. 1 Bruin Gymnasts Defeat Cal State Fullerton, 196.825-192.9

Fullerton, CA - Doni Thompson, Malia Jones and Yvonne Tousek paced UCLA to a196.825-192.900 women's gymnastics victory Sunday over Cal State Fullerton.

The Bruins, defending national champions and the pre-season No. 1 team, swept the top three places on all four events even as the Titans posted their best season-opening score ever.

Thompson, competing in all-around for only the second time as a Bruin, scoreda career-high 39.425 to Jones' 39.275. Fullerton's Kelly Mathiasen took third with acareer-best 39.225. UCLA's Tousek won three events - bars (9.9), beam (9.9) and floor (9.95) - and Kristin Parker won the vault with a career-high 9.925. Jeanette Antolin placed second on vault (9.9), bars (9.85) and floor (9.925).

The Bruins scored the nation's highest score of the season despite sitting out Mohini Bhardwaj, Onnie Willis and Olympians Jamie Dantzscher and Kristen Maloney.
